I saw a short tid-bit about what professing evangelical Christians thought about Jesus – who He is. The survey, called “The State of Theology,” got a mixture of answers: 97% believe Him to be the Son in the Godhead – Father, Son, H.S. or Holy Ghost = One true God is 3 divine persons; 78% believed Him to be the first/greatest being created by God.
Jesus was not created; I should say, He, the male baby, was the “Child born” in Isa. 9:6; the “Son is given,” i.e. “Christ” or the “Word.” We know Him as the God-man-both divine and human.
John 1:1: “In the beginning was the Word,” i.e. when time started for the human race; “and the Word was with God, and the Word was God,” i.e. the “Eternal Logos,” “Eternal Son” always was! John goes on to tell us about Jesus, the Savior: “That was the True Light” or, literally, “That was the True Light which, coming into the world, gives light to every man.” Jn. 1:9.
Verse 18 says, “No one has seen God (the Father) at any time. The only Begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” For this we need to be THANKFUL!! It was the Son’s mission to reveal His/our Father, bear witness of His desire to save lost humanity, and to be the supreme sacrifice for us by giving us a chance to know God.
Jesus is eternal: He didn’t come into existence when He was conceived (Mt. 1:23-25; 1:20) and then born as a baby. He existed in eternity;
Jesus is God: “The Word was God” (Jn.1:1). He has always been and will never cease being divine;
Jesus is with God: (vv.1,2 Jn.1). The Son and the Father, along with the Holy Spirit, have always existed eternally as separate, yet unified persons;
Jesus is the Creator: (Jn. 1:3). Nothing came into existence apart from Him;
Jesus is Life/Light: (Jn. 1:v). He is the source of all life, temporal and eternal.
So-
I give Him (Them) thanks today for bringing me (us) Life and Light into my (our) darkened world. Actually, Thanksgiving and Christmas go hand-in-hand. (the real Christmas, not Dec. 25th, the paganism and commercialization we have today. Jesus deserves our best! The best gift we could give is to give our hearts to Him, not gifts to one another. The real commemoration of Jesus’ birth has been hijacked by the world for profit. While the U.S. celebrates Nov. 25th and Dec. 25th, making merry, let us honor/praise Jesus every day of the year.
